Lighting
system design.
Lighting design in Tbilisi and across Georgia is more than placing fittings on a ceiling grid. MEP Trade designs interior, facade and emergency lighting backed by photometric calculations, so every space reaches its required illuminance and uniformity with the lowest practical installed load, in line with Georgian technical regulations and EN 12464-1, EN 1838 and CIBSE guidance.
Lighting is developed as part of the electrical design, so luminaire loads, circuits, emergency supplies and control wiring are carried straight into the distribution boards and cable routes.
What a lighting design package includes:
- Interior lighting — illuminance and glare targets per room type, luminaire selection and layouts for lobbies, guest rooms, retail, offices and back-of-house;
- Lux simulation — DIALux or Relux calculations with illuminance, uniformity and UGR results for each typical space;
- Facade and landscape lighting — architectural floodlighting, linear and accent lighting, site and parking lighting;
- Emergency lighting — escape-route and open-area lighting, exit signage, central battery or self-contained systems;
- Lighting controls — DALI and KNX dimming, presence and daylight sensors, scene control and interfaces to BMS;
- Documentation — lighting layouts, luminaire schedules, circuit drawings, specifications and bills of quantities, plus author supervision on site.
We have designed lighting for hotels (Hilton Batumi, Radisson, Paragraph Shekvetili), shopping centres (Tbilisi Mall, City Mall Gldani), hospitals, an airport terminal, offices and residential complexes — see the portfolio. Lighting is modelled with the electrical design, ceilings, HVAC diffusers and sprinkler heads in one BIM model, and its controls are integrated with the BMS.
Frequently asked
questions.
How much does lighting design cost in Tbilisi?
The fee depends on the floor area, the building type and how far the scope goes — functional interior lighting only, or also facade, landscape and a full DALI control strategy. Hotels and retail interiors with many scenes and decorative fittings take more work than an office floor. We quote a fixed fee per stage after reviewing the architectural and interior drawings.
Which lighting standards do you design to in Georgia?
We follow Georgian technical regulations and building norms and, where they are not specific, EN 12464-1 for indoor workplace lighting, EN 1838 for emergency lighting and CIBSE guidance. Hotel operators and retail tenants often have their own lighting briefs, which we apply alongside these standards.
Does the lighting design cover the permit-stage package?
Yes. Lighting and emergency lighting are part of the electrical section of the permit-stage design submitted for the building permit. We then develop it to tender-grade detail with luminaire schedules, control schematics and quantities.
What is a lux calculation and do I need one?
A lux calculation, made in DIALux or Relux, simulates the light each luminaire delivers and checks illuminance, uniformity and glare against the required values. It prevents both under-lit spaces and oversized installations that waste energy, and it is usually expected for offices, retail, healthcare and hotel public areas.
Can I order lighting design on its own?
Yes. Lighting can be ordered as a single discipline, for example for a facade, a hotel interior or a retail fit-out. We then coordinate with your electrical engineer and interior designer so circuits, control wiring and ceiling layouts match.
How is lighting coordinated with the electrical, HVAC and fire systems?
All systems sit in one coordinated Revit/BIM model, so luminaires, diffusers, sprinkler heads and detectors share the reflected ceiling plan without clashes. Lighting loads and emergency circuits feed directly into the electrical design, and DALI or KNX controls are linked to the BMS and to the fire alarm for evacuation scenarios.
