Electrical
power design.
Electrical design in Tbilisi and across Georgia has to get one thing right before anything else: enough reliable power, delivered safely to every outlet, motor and lift, with backup where a failure is not acceptable. MEP Trade designs power distribution systems from the utility connection and transformer down to final circuits, sized from a real load analysis and selective protection studies.
Every other engineering system depends on it — chillers, pumps, fans, fire pumps and BMS all need correctly sized, coordinated supplies.
What an electrical design package includes:
- Load analysis — connected and maximum demand per floor and per system, diversity factors and the capacity request for the utility connection;
- Single-line diagrams — transformers, main and sub-distribution boards, busbar trunking, cable sizing, voltage-drop and short-circuit calculations;
- Panel schedules — circuit-by-circuit board schedules with protective devices, discrimination and metering;
- Backup and essential power — diesel generators, UPS systems, automatic transfer switching and supplies for fire and life-safety equipment;
- Small power and containment — socket outlets, equipment connections, cable trays, ladders and riser layouts;
- Earthing and lightning protection — earthing systems, equipotential bonding, lightning protection and surge protection;
- Documentation — permit and tender-grade drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
Our electrical portfolio includes hotels (Hilton Batumi, Radisson, Paragraph Shekvetili), Tbilisi Mall, City Mall Gldani, hospitals, an airport terminal, offices and residential complexes — see the projects. Power is designed in the same BIM model as HVAC, lighting and low-voltage systems, so every load has a supply and every cable route has space.
Frequently asked
questions.
How much does electrical design cost in Tbilisi?
The fee depends on floor area, building type and the complexity of the supply — a residential block is simpler than a hospital or mall with transformer substations, generators and UPS. The design stage required and whether lighting and low-voltage systems are included also matter. We quote per project after reviewing the drawings and the brief.
How long does an electrical design take?
For a mid-size building, a detailed electrical design typically takes a few weeks, depending on project size, how settled the architecture is and how early the mechanical loads are known. A preliminary load estimate for the utility connection request can usually be prepared earlier. On large projects we issue packages in sequence.
Does the electrical design cover the permit-stage package for the building permit?
Yes. We prepare the permit-stage electrical design that accompanies the building permit application, to Georgian technical regulations and building norms, with IEC and EN standards applied to equipment, protection and earthing. We also prepare the load data the client needs to apply for the grid connection. The permit package is then developed into detailed and tender design.
What do you need from the client to start?
Architectural plans and sections, preferably in DWG or Revit, the intended use of each space, and any tenant, operator or brand requirements. Information on the existing or planned utility connection and the client's expectations for backup power help us size transformers, generators and UPS correctly.
Do you size generators and UPS systems?
Yes. We identify which loads need backup — fire pumps, smoke extract, evacuation lighting, lifts, IT and critical medical equipment — and size generators, UPS and transfer switching accordingly. The level of backup is agreed with the client and depends on the building type and how long the building must keep operating during an outage.
Can I order only the electrical design?
Yes. Electrical design can be ordered on its own, and we coordinate with the architect and the other engineers on the project. When we also design HVAC, plumbing and fire protection, all systems sit in one BIM model, so loads, plant rooms and cable routes are agreed before construction.
